Terry De Gunzbureg and Jean Jack Dutko
The dream for any self employed in any profession would surely be to create something that would be an essential for everyone in the same industry. Terry de Gunzburg did exactly that. She invented the Touche Éclat and it has been the cornerstone of her successful career in make-up and the essential for many women, (and possibly men?). Touche Éclat is also called ‘8 hours of sleep in a tube’ which tells it all. I went to Terry’s house in West London to photograph her with her art advisor Jean Jack Dutko, someone who has provided Terry with some amazing and priceless art and furniture. Terry’s house was amazing, filled with art deco furniture and other priceless furniture. Art pieces scattered around the walls and floors and coffee table books the size of some east end studio flats. This shoot was meant to show Terry with Jean Jack, who had provided Terry with her art deco sideboard, seen behind them in the room.
Terry was lovely and welcoming, telling stories of having worked with the best and of her experience with photographers such as the amazing Guy Boudin. After having pronounced the word “WOW” enough times to be confused with a guitar wow-wow pedal, I found out that Terry’s main selection is in her residence in London and Paris. W!O!W!
