This shoot with Susanna was very different from our previous shoot showing Susanna with food at her Mum’s place. After a long 1 + 1/2 hour drive to south London, (a classic case of London driving as it was only 10 miles away,) we entered a daylight filled studio. A cloudy day and lots of windows gave the space the perfect light for this shoot. This was not supposed to show the glamour of Susanna Reid that we all see every morning on Breakfast TV. No, this shoot was to be Susanna in her own clothes, more reflective, giving a nod to the seriousness of the article.
Susanna had just finished an ITV documentary looking into the terrible case of Becky Watts (16). Becky’s body was found dismembered after having been missing for two weeks. It was later discovered that she was murdered by her step brother Nathan Matthews, helped by his girlfriend Shauna Hoare. It is not an easy case to read about and I had the feeling that Susanna, having interviewed and talked to Becky’s family, her Dad and step Mum (who were still together), had been personally disturbed by what she had heard.
This photoshoot was not one to bring in elements of glamour, but rather a time to strip it all down and show Susanna for the serious and reflective journalist she is when dealing with serious issues.
