Professor Chris Lintott
Professor Chris Lintott is one of UK’s leading scientists in Astrophysics and Citizen Science. He’s got a small office at Oxford University filled with small objects, gifts, gags about the universe and tennis equipment. (He is also a big fan of ‘Real Tennis’…)
Considering he is a man that looks outwards to the greatest space we can imagine (universe), I have to admit he has a very small office. It was exactly this that I wanted as a backdrop for at least one setup. with my bum blocking the hallway, I stood with head and camera in his office doorway and squeezed in as much as I could into the frame. it’s one of those offices you really want to include it all, as every item tells a little story. Mini telescopes, signs, martian cartoons, formulas written on windows and walls, tennis balls, a bottle of Gin in an optic (couldn’t fit it in the frame), trophies, cards and papers all over the place. A good insight in to a great mind.
Professor Chris Lintott is the co-founder of Galaxy Zoo, an online crowdsourcing project where members of the public can volunteer their time to assist in classifying over a million galaxies. Slowly he is putting together a map of space like we have never seen before.
Eventually we move out of his office to explore space at Oxford University Campus. With us we take a picture of a galaxy and float around in a concrete space.
