Mitchell and Webb
David Mitchell and Robert Webb are the duo behind the hugely popular TV series Peepshow. The show has been on our screens since 2003 and won multiple awards. The show (now in it’s 9th and last series) is the longest running comedy on Channel 4.
I turned up at the shoot in a private members club in the centre of town, soon after came David Mitchell in shirt and trousers, (rocking a moustache needed for a TV show he’s filming at the moment,) and then Robert Webb with jeans, T-shirt and trainers, (slightly more youthful). It became evident that the characters played in Peep Show resemble the real life character more than what one could imagine. I do of course not insinuate that David is as socially awkward and Robert is as self-interested as they may be in the show, but there are character traits that resembles the characters play. I suppose this will always be the case in a successful series, there has to be an element of honesty or recognition from the actors in order for it all to work.
The shoot began slowly, I needed to see how they interact in front of the camera. Nothing much happened so we all agreed that it was best with direction, something they took to very well to. No suggestion was turned down, but instead they took the ideas and made them their own. Although the act is one that shows them uncomfortable with each other, this is only an act they could pull off because they know each other well and are 100% comfortable in each other’s company.
Peep Show is now back on TV for the last time. Check it out and fall in love, (if you haven’t done so already). And as I said – don’t worry, the moustache is for an other series so it will not make an appearance in Peep Show (I think….). David also apologises for the presence of his top-lip-pet.)
