Some times you get that call to take part in a slightly different feature. A feature you’ve never thought of but which could lead to some good images and a good look into individual relationships. This was to be exactly one of those features. How does a successful boss relate to his/her first boss? I imagined a set of images that would look at individuals that have maintained good relationships but also images of people who are completely uncomfortable with each other. The premise for a good shoot was there. The problem was that we wanted to photograph some of the countries most prominent bosses and their schedule and their bosses schedule made it hard to pin them all down. So, (predictably perhaps?) I was not able to do the full set of images as the timeslots for the shoots were limited and some of the subjects could not be shot together. The bosses and the bosses’ bosses I did manage to shoot were Alex Schulman and Shirley Lowe + David Lammy and Bibi………… In both of the shoots it seemed like the current bosses (Alex, editor at British Vogue and David, the Mare of Tottenham) had a friendly relationship with their bosses from way back when… There was no feeling of power struggle or the ‘look at me now – HA!’ syndrome which was nice, but also disappointing as bitterness could make for a good variation amongst the images.
