“Loopy” is a word that can bring with it many associations. Some not that great admittedly, but when I now chose to use the word I do it with the greatest affection and admiration. Yes, I did have the pleasure of working with the loopy Amanda Barrie for Specsavers and their hearing features. Freshly out of Big Brother where she ended up in 6th place, the Corrie actress entered the Drury Lane theatre as if she owned the place. Her presence was immediately noticeable and the team relaxed into a laugh and a smile as she proceeded to invite us into the joyous world of Amanda Barrie. We wanted to show her in the context of Drury Lane Theatre as she has a long standing connection with the theatre. In fact she told us of her early days of standing on the steps of the theatre promising herself that one day she would play in the theatre.
Now, many years after that youthful moment praying at the steps of Drury Lane Theatre, she has had her wedding reception there. She’s still not played there but has achieved many acting successes since.
Amanda isn’t your normal celeb, with accompanying stylist and sponsored by designers. Amanda came with home made jewellery and clothes, colourful in character as well as clothing. Meeting Amanda is what Lego Land is for a child – an alternative reality, a world of adventure, fun, colour and playfulness.
