Alice Fisher and Johnny Davis – Paternity Leave
They say ‘never work with kids or animals’. I say the opposite (with exceptions I say before someone calls me about a job including a wild crocodile and a 1 year old). Kids and animals give you the non censored spontaneous image. Not easy if you’re looking to take a fashionable “sultry, looking into the distance” type of portrait, but if you’re up for some fun and up for letting your subject be instrumental in composing the image, then it’s the perfect addition to a good portrait. I was commissioned to photograph the Guardian’s fashion editor Alice Fisher and the deputy editor of Esquire magazine Johnny Davis with their two kids. The images were to support an article about paternity leave which was recently introduced as ‘optional’ in the UK. Its is evident in the images, Johnny is thrilled about the time he has spent at home.
